The workshop aimed to inform the UPOU community about the UPOU library services and resources, how to use the Web OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog) and other online resources, and how to search for online full-text articles through interactive demonstration and hands-on practice.

Dr. Grace Javier Alfonso, UP Open University Chancellor, welcomed all the participants to the workshop. She mentioned the importance of library services in the 21st century where electronic and digitized resources continually expand. "The availability of a tremendous number of subscription and online free resources makes the aspect of library services all the more crucial," she said.

The first speaker for the day was Mr. Josef Halos, Country Manager for EBSCO Publishing, the world's most-used paid online research solution. He demonstrated how to use the EBSCO host database and collection manager and identified the benefits and the ways to access to EBSCO e-books. Some faculty member participants expressed their interest in sampling EBSCO services.

The second speaker was Ms. Jennifer Belen, UPOU Librarian. She discussed the rules, guidelines and obligations in borrowing library materials and explained how to access the electronic databases available at the UPOU Library, such as the Gale Virtual research Library, Proquest, EBSCO, and Sciencedirect. She also gave a list of electronic books that can be used for research and other academic purposes. Ms. Belen moderated a short game to test the participants' hands-on ability after the lecture.

The workshop ended with a closing remarks delivered by Asst. Prof. Consuelo Habito on behalf of Dr. Melinda Lumanta, UPOU Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. She thanked all the guests and participants for joining the workshop and encouraged them all to take advantage of the services. (Anna Cañas-Llamas)
